The World Cup is now only a matter of weeks away. Having previously looked into which teams were to fear in Russia. This time I will turn my attention to individual players who I believe will light the tournament up this year.
With a biblical name like his, he could be the man to resurrect Brazils fortunes and fire them to a sixth victory. Still only 21 this young man led the line for Premier League champions Manchester City due to the absence of Sergio Aguero in the latter stages of the season. Despite his tender age, he never seems overawed by the occasion. With creative players dotted all around him in the shape of Neymar and Coutinho. Jesus will crucify anyone that stands in his way.
From Jesus to Mohammed. Let us hope for the sake of football that the Egyptian King, who lit up the Premier League in the 2017-18 season scoring an unbelievable 46 goals. As well as assisting his teammates 14 times in the process is fit for the finals. If this man is able to continue his season form into the World Cup after his heart-breaking injury in the UEFA Champions League Final against Real Madrid, there is no doubt Egypt could be headed to break records and reach the knockout rounds for the first time in their footballing history.
The man with the weight of a nation bestowed upon his shoulders. This could be the tournament that Harry Kane firmly establishes himself amongst the worlds best.
If England is to achieve something no England team has done since 1966 and win the whole thing. Much will depend on Kane turning up. Kane was recently handed the honour of leading his nation into a World Cup final which is every boy’s dream will only heighten his desire to succeed.
This French squad is blessed with talent in every position so it was hard to pick just one. However, despite the quality throughout Griezmann is still the lynchpin to this French squad. He provides the creativity. The goals and should now be at the peak of his powers at the age of 27.
Many would believe the French have the most complete squad who are definitely favourites for winning the ultimate Golden prize. But none would be possible without the contribution of their forward and fatal finisher, Antoine Griezmann.
Having completed a rather excellent season after lifting the UEFA Europa League trophy with Atletico Madrid and finishing second, ahead of Real Madrid in their domestic league, Griezmann will be raring to celebrate with his new famous Fortnite celebration in Russia.
Belgium, who will forever be labelled the dark horse of any tournament they enter until they win something has a number of attacking options to choose from. The one constant among them will be the Chelsea star, Eden Hazard. Known for his swift dribbles where he can run past his entire opposition and score goals single-handedly. Hazard will have to perform big at the International stage if he is to become one of the greats of the sport.
The Red Devils need a big tournament if they are to rise to their expectations and progress in the latter stages. Ultimately, lifting the Golden trophy looking at the talent they boast. They are without a doubt one of the strongest teams on paper but how they play together as a unit, remains to be seen.
