Now the dust has settled after Danny Willett’s wonderful victory at Augusta National we were thinking where this ranks in the great British triumphs from the start of 2015.

Danny Willett US Masters Champion

The 28-year-old from Sheffield pulled off an incredible comeback to become only the second Englishman to win the Green Jacket at Augusta. It came in the 80th renewal of the tournament and 20 years on from Nick Faldo’s last Masters victory.

Tyson Fury – Heavy-weight champion of the world

On November 28th 2015 Tyson Fury shocked the world by beating heavily fancied Wladimir Klitschko by unanimous decision.

The outspoken Brit ended the reign of boxing’s most dominant heavyweight in recent time to secure the WBA Super, WBO and IBF titles on foreign soil in Dusseldorf.

Great Britain Davis Cup World Group Final

Leon Smith deserves huge credit for dragging the GB team from the doldrums to champions in the quickest time in competition history.

Andy Murray was pivotal in GB’s first trophy in 79 years, but was well supported by the likes of Kyle Edmund, Jamie Murray, James Ward and Dan Evans.

England Six Nations Grand Slam

Having been embarrassed as Rugby World Cup hosts at the end of last year the RFU brought in Eddie Jones who immediately turned the Red Rose into Six Nations Grand Slam champs. It was first time they had swept the board since 2003.

Lewis Hamilton Formula One champion

At the conclusion of the 2015 season Lewis Hamilton won the title to become the first British driver in the history to land successive F1 titles, and he joined Jackie Stewart on three titles.
