From Ridgeway to Rostov: Harry Kane

Read time 3 minutes

Fresh from a World Cup hattrick, the final instalment of this blog series brings us to Harry Kane. The man who much of Englands World Cup expectation rest upon. The England captain, a world-class finisher, so many superlatives to describe such a player. You know what is even better? He plays for us! Previously, I have touched on Marcus Rashford and Raheem Sterling so now I turn my attention towards England’s world-class centre-forward.

He began his career being turfed out on loan several times, even sharing a place on the bench at Leicester City with fellow England forward Jamie Vardy. This all changed when Tim Sherwood took over from Adrea Villas-Boas. Sherwood gave him an opportunity in the Europa Cup where he blossomed. He didn’t take long for Harry to wrestle his way into the first team, and soon he was Tottenham’s star man firing Spurs into the Champions League. Along the way, he added some personal accolades, winning the PFA Young Player of the Year as well as appearing in the Team of the Year four times on the trot and multiple Golden Boots.

Many believed he was merely a one season wonder but he hasn’t slowed down. Going from strength to strength scoring 56 goals in 2017 elevating him above the competition as one of the top strikers in the World.

Due to Harry Kane’s impressive club form. It ultimately led to a call-up to the national side. It took him a mere 80 seconds to score for England against Lithuania and since then has not looked back.

Born in Walthamstow, Harry Kane’s family moved to nearby Chingford. His love of the game began at his local club, Ridgeway Rovers the same junior side a certain David Beckham played for. His time was sandwiched between trials at Arsenal and Watford. Ridgeway Rovers have been crucial in Harry Kane’s football education, giving him a proper footballing education. He played his home games at Parmiters Sports Ground, a pitch that has become a partnered venue of Playfinder. Having played with Ridgeway for 4 years, Harry Kane travelled across the local venues in and around the surrounding area.  Harry Kane took the long route to the top, however, he proved hard work certainly pays off and he has not looked back since.

You should use Harry Kane’s story as motivation. Although you may not be staring in Russia this summer, who knows, Qatar in 2022  you could lead the line.
