Now it’s June and officially summer it’s time to dig out the golf clubs, blow off the cobwebs and get out there to enjoy some of London’s best golf courses.

Best Golf Clubs in London

At Augusta National in April, Englishman Danny Willett landed his first major championship, becoming just the second from the nation to do so and the first European in 17 years. Willett’s heroic Masters performance was an inspiration to golfers up and down the country.

Later in July the 145th Open Championship Championship is being contested at Royal Troon Golf Club in Ayrshire, then in September Europe will look to defend the 41st Ryder Cup in the US at Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska, Minnesota.

These are just two of golfs standout events to whet the appetite and get people back on the golf course trying to emulate the likes of Willett. Before doing so it’s vital to know which course you’re going to play to find the best suited to whatever handicap you play off.

I started playing golf on a whim in 2011. My brother called me one day and asked me if I fancied playing a round.  I quickly borrowed a set of clubs and rapidly became hooked on the sport. I actually made remarkable progress in those early days, shooting my first sub 90 round within two years. Since then my game has leveled out a bit and I’m now playing off a steady 21 handicap.

From the very beginning I played a range of different courses and soon realised that some of the reviews available to golf course visitors was sketchy, there wasn’t enough detail, there was too much irrelevant information. I began to write about my experiences of each of the clubs I visited, most of which were in London and the South East. My aim has always been to write from the golfers perspective, to try and communicate the spirit of enjoyment

There are around 180 golf courses in and around the London area, a fact that seems to have gone unnoticed by many. As I write my blog and develop my website I hope to celebrate and promote London as a global golf destination. You’ll find some of the finest golf courses in the World in London, from park land to heath and links style courses, from exclusive private members clubs to pay-and-play municipals, the capital is home to a unique variety of golf clubs.
