Playfinder partners with Active Luton to boost local sports participation

Playfinder, London’s leading search and booking portal for grassroots sport, has teamed up with Active Luton to get more people in the area playing sport and enjoying activities.

Book Luton sports venues online

The partnership allows Luton residents to easily find and book their nearest sports facilities – including Inspire: Luton Sports Village and Lea Manor Recreation Centre. Since launch Playfinder has placed over 14,000 bookings and helped thousands of active users gain access to over 4000 pitches and courts on MLP’s database.

Luton facilities gain access to free booking software and marketing services via Playfinder as well as providing a web and mobile platform for sports players to search and book pitches.

A bespoke Luton page has been introduced to further break down barriers to entry in sport for local residents. Here users can visit a dedicated page to book as many as 15 sports in the local area.

In November 2015 an app launched to allow people to search and book venues on the move. It also lets users compare prices, search for their favourite surfaces, and book indoor venues. The app means sports fans can search for pitches wherever they are using geo-location.

Sport England delivered its latest strategy earlier this year which centred on encouraging sports participation which is at the heart of Active Luton and Playfinder’s long-term goals.

Jamie Foale, Co-Founder of Playfinder, said: “Partnering with Active Luton gives us the perfect platform to continue our mission of getting more people into sport and activities. Embracing technology in the search and booking process means more people can get involved in sports which has huge benefits for the mental and physical well-being of society.”

Helen Barnett, chief executive of Active Luton, said: “Active Luton wants to get everyone in Luton as active as possible in ways which suits their wide ranging needs and lifestyles.  We are delighted to partner with any initiative that aims to make participating in sport and activity easier for our community.”
