News circulated last week that Fulham FC and Jacksonville Jaguar owner Shahid Khan had made a whopping 950-million-pound offer to buy the home of football, Wembley. Since its reopening in 2007 Wembley has had its fair share of ups and downs. From the atrocious display against Croatia in 2008 which summoned England to a summer without a major tournament since the World Cup in 1994. To the sheer jubilation from Hull City born and bred Dean Windass. Who smashed in a 30-yard volley to send his local club into the big time for the first time in their history. Wembley has had its fair share of memorable moments. Let us look at the top 5 football matches played at the New Wembley.
Hull City 5-3 Sheffield United (2014 FA Cup Semi-final)
This match was nonstop excitement, as goals rained down at Wembley. The result meant Hull City booked their first FA Cup final in their history. League One outfit Sheffield United ran Hull very close leading 2-1 at halftime. But, the Premier Leagues experience shone through and ran out eventual winners. Hull would later go on to face a strong Arsenal side who, despite leading 2-0 eventually lost 3-2.
Speedy forward Obafemi Martins punished Laurent Koscielny lapse of concentration which resulted in the much unfancied Birmingham City slaying Arsenal in the final to win their first piece of domestic success at Wembley since 1963. What it meant to Arsenal did not make pleasant reading. It meant the trophy drought extended to 6 years, furthermore, it laid the first seeds of doubt into many arsenal fans heads about Mr. Wenger.

England 5-1 Croatia (World Cup qualifier 2010)
Revenge has never been so sweet. England steamrolled Croatia securing qualification for the 2010 World Cup in style. Wayne Rooney and co tore into Croatia with such venom. The fluid football by Fabio Capello’s men got all England fans drooling about what could happen in South Africa. Unfortunately, it wasn’t to be. Although, we still appreciate what a great performance this truly was and why it should feature in the top 5 best matches at the new Wembley.
Reading 2-4 Swansea City (2011 Play-off Final 2011)
This was the first-time football fans around the country really got to see how good a manager Brendan Rogers really was. He led his Swansea side to the Premier League for the first time in their history. Moreover, they also became the first Welsh side to reach the promised land. A very impressive feat indeed. Hero of the day was Scott Sinclair who fired in a hat-trick.

Barcelona 3-1 Manchester United (Champions League Final 2011)
We leave the best till last, and it comes from a side across the shore in sunny Spain. This was a performance of utter joy that led every football fan standing to salute Pep Guardiola’s men. Led by the effervescent Lionel Messi, this Barcelona side played spell bounding football, which ultimately resulted in this Barcelona team winning a second European Cup in three years. Alex Ferguson, manager hailed this side ‘the best he ever faced.’
