Welcome to our new exciting blog series.  Playfinder is compiling a blog series, focusing on the careers of some of England’s most exciting prospects. We will be highlighting the transition these top stars have made from their grassroots playing days through to present day. It is not long now till the eyes of a nation will cast upon them. For the duration of Englands time in the World Cup (so right till the final), we will be taking a look at three footballs who have reached global stardom but started life like many of us, by playing at their local pitch.

With World Cup fever in full flow let’s not waste time and dive straight in.

One of the most promising young talents England has to offer is Marcus Rashford. A player who burst onto the football scene two years ago at Manchester United. Rashford scored on his first-team debut for Manchester United and later on his Premier League debut. It proved to be no fluke as he also scored on his first start for the National team and in the process becoming the youngest player to score on his first start for his country. Due to his Manchester roots and his goal-scoring ability coupled with his express pace,  it led to him becoming a firm favourite for both England and United fans.

Rashford was born in Wythenshawe, an area in South Manchester. From the age of five, he became football mad. He joined local side Fletcher Moss Rangers. He played his home games at Merseybank Playing Fields, a venue mylocalpitch work with. Fletcher Moss Rangers a club which is accustomed to producing many England and United players in the past year. Excellent talent such as fellow England internationals Danny Welbeck and Jesse Lingard have both followed the same path. They two will also pull on the famous Three Lions jersey come June in Russia as they to have achieved a place in Gareth Southgate’s young side following there own tremendous form for there club season.

Rashford’s journey from grassroots football to the World Cup has been excelled by his success at Manchester United. Despite not having that experience and talent. It shouldn’t stop you getting your boots on this summer and venture out to where it all started for Rashford at Merseybank Playing Fields or another one of your local pitches.
