The popularity of hockey is on the rise in Dublin and so is the quality of pitch available to teams. Ranging from water based to astroturf and even sand based pitches there is a huge variety on offer for hockey players around the capital. Here are some top examples of where you can play hockey in Dublin.
Alexandra College offers hockey on sand and water based pitches, with floodlights. The venue is situated in the heart of south Dublin's Milltown and also provides parking and changing facilities.
Hockey is one of the many sports offered by ALSAA at it's North Dublin venue. Situated in Toberbunny is the ALSAA astroturf hockey pitch available to hire on a pay as you play basis. The centre offers free parking and changing rooms to customers and can be reached from Dublin Bus Stop 1631 (Swords Rd). The venue is open from 06.30 - 23.00 Mon - Fri; 09.00 - 18.00 Sat & Sun.
The National Sports Campus is home to a plethora of sporting facilities and those wishing to play hockey can avail of it's outdoor astroturf pitch on a pay as you play basis. The venue also boasts floodlights, free parking, and full changing facilities. Those using public transport can reach the centre from Dublin Bus Stop 4974 (Snugborough Rd, Aquatic Centre) 16.00 - 22.00 Mon-Fri; 09.00 - 15.00 Sat; Closed Sunday (bookings available on request)
Just a few minutes walk from Dalkey DART station and village is Loreto Abbey Sports Hall. This venue offers a wide range of sports facilities with it's full sized astroturf hockey pitch at the heart of the sports on offer. Booking enquiries can be made via Playfinder and the venue's opening hours are as follows: Monday-Friday 6pm-9pm Saturday/Sunday 9am-5.30pm
As well as 5 a side football and gym YMCA Sandmount in Dublin 4 offers outdoor astroturf hockey pitches. The pitches can be rented on a pay as you play basis and the centre also provides floodlights, paid parking and changing rooms. The nearest station to YMCA Sandymount is Dublin Bus Stop 2807 (Sandymount Ave, Wilfield Park) or Sandymount DART Station. The venue is open from 07.30 - 21.15 (Mon-Thurs) 07.30 - 20.15 (Fri) 10.00 - 16.30 (Sat) Closed (Sun).
Situated on the South Dublin Belfield campus University College Dublin is the home of the National Hockey Stadium. Both sand based and water based pitch surfaces are available to rent on a pay as you play basis. The sports centre at University College Dublin also has changing rooms and floodlights. Parking at the venue is pay and display.The nearest station to University College Dublin is Dublin Bus Stop 877 (UCD, Sports Centre). The venue is open from 08.30 - 22.00 Mon-Fri; 10.00 - 17.30 Sat&Sun.
